My GOD, but I've been gone a while. Let's see...

1. School.
2. School. (Badminton in particular. I'm terrible at it.)
3. Got an internship at a local theatre (!!!), the same one which came into my Shakespeare class over the summer. I've been doing it for a few weeks (this season is "Ben Jonson and Shakespeare's Contemporaries"), and basically I just have to set up chairs on their one-show-a-week and run errands a couple other days. And I get to see the show! So it's all amazing, but exhausting.
4. Had to postpone two plays within a few days; one, CalShakes' Much Ado to about two weeks from now; the other, Hamlet on Alcatraz... no, not set in Alcatraz, staged on and around the island. So that was originally going to be in about two weeks, now it's about a month from now.

And posts I need to make:

1. Ashland's production of Hamlet
2. Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival's production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged
3. Asta Nielsen's Hamlet
4. all the movies I watched when I was sick a few weeks ago (mostly Shakespeare-related (note the "related"), with a couple of Kevin Kline things)
5. the excitement of having seen 10 film Hamlets
6. the play I saw tonight, MilkMilkLemonade, which I'll probably talk about tomorrow when it's still fresh.

Lists lists lists blah blah blah. Oh look, a distraction!

I had the idea for this aaaages ago, but only got around to making it recently. It's a bit silly, and mostly nonsense, but I like it. Nota bene: first bit is Hamlet's POV, then goes into Claudius', then descends into nonsense. Yay!

God, I am tired.

Uh, I mean. Enjoy!

Hee! Thanks. There aren't enough, really. :P

The only film version I've seen thus far where I could see Hamlet/Claudius is the 2000 one with Ethan Hawke. Patrick Stewart, in this version, is far too austere to ship with anyone. XD

Asta!Hamlet! Who is buddies with Fortinbras and passes as a man because all the men wear too much make-up! I'm looking forward to your Shakespeare thoughts. :D

IT IS SO CRACKY AND AMAZING. XD I was intending to do a picspam of it, but then I spent like 20 caps on the scene where Hamlet meets Horatio. So, uh.

My predominant thoughts were YAY HAMLET/HORATIO and OMG ASTA NIELSEN GET IN MY PANTS. Also: did you know that the whole concept is from a book about Hamlet? (Probably, but let me talk about it.) Basically, the whole thing is trying to prove Hamlet's a girl. Which is, okay, sure. But then they spend a chapter arguing that s/he's in love with Horatio. But because it's nearly impossible to actually PROVE Hamlet is female, they spend the whole chapter talking about "his untold passion" or w/e. XD YAY SCHOLARLY VALIDATION.

Also, I was intrigued by the lack of ghost. And Hamlet's decisiveness at the end. And evil Gertrude.

I might have known about the book at some point but I don't remember, so hee, cool! I should definitely watch this again, it's been years.

You should! And it's on Google Books, actually, if you want to skim it. It's called something along the lines of The Mystery of Hamlet.

Well, here is their website. Here's a little bit on it in the local news. If you poke around on the website you can find their blog and such, but yeah, basically it's just Hamlet staged all around Alcatraz. Starting on the ferry there, and then going all around the island and prison. Our show is going to start at 3:30, I think, which is good because hopefully the sun'll have set for the last hour or so. :D

Oh and apparently I tangentially know one of the women in it? She was in the reading of Henry IV 1 I saw with my Shakespeare class, done by the company I'm working for now. But I can't recognize any of the people in the photos and such, so I've probably forgotten what her face looks like. Oops.

Of course! It'll be over by the evening, so I can do it that same day. And... that might be the woman I tangentially know, actually. (Now you mention it, I think the guy I work for/with/something said she was playing Hamlet. So, uh. Maybe I can get an introduction?)

I might've read something along those lines months ago, when it was still in production. But yeah, I'll talk about it when I see it. BECAUSE YOU LIVE ON THE EAST COAST WHERE THEY HAVE ALL KINDS OF OTHER AWESOME THEATRE. We should switch places for a month, or something. :P

I didn't realize how much I'd been missing your vids in my life until I watched this. Amazing, as always...
Oct. 4th, 2010 05:47 am (UTC)
Aw, thank you. ♥

Actually, I've also a Brutus/Cassius vid that I finished sometime in August, but every time I tried to publish it the audio decided to be a huge douche. :| Which is annoying. But yeah, hopefully I'll get that done soon.
Oct. 4th, 2010 06:08 am (UTC)
YAY. Sorry about the audio trouble :( I hate when computers don't work for me. Which, as you know, is basically ALL THE TIME.

P. S.

If you made that vid for the reason I think you made that vid, I owe you a fic.

Oct. 6th, 2010 05:54 am (UTC)
Yeah... XD Mine works sometimes, but then it has days where it just goes, "Nope. Taking a break. Don't feel like doing anything today." Which makes me go WTF computer, you're a computer and you can't think for yourself. And then it blows a raspberry at me, and that's when this comment stops making sense.

PS. If we're thinking of the same reason why I made that vid, no you don't because you already wrote me one. :P
