OPHELIA, I'M BREAKIN YOUR HEART, I'M SHAKIN YOUR CONFIDENCE DAILY

lol omg RosnGuil are the hyenas. (Although this is still not as good as elviaprose's Julius Caesar "Be Prepared" vid.) Dammit, not I want to make one, too! I can't decide between Macbeth and Richard III - Richard doesn't actually kill a king, but he's certainly got the eeeeevil down.

Lastly, because I love Derek Jacobi. More than Branagh or Stewart (sorry Kenbran, PStew, I love you guys, but... JACOBI).

Sure he does! It's just that it's in 3 Henry VI.

Does he now! See, this is why I need to acquaint myself better with the Henry VIs. (I listened to VI 1 on tape in the car with my dad and loved it QUITE A LOT, although perhaps I was biased because The Talbot had the same voice actor as Brutus in the JC we'd just listened to, and Henry VI was David Tennant. So, y'know, that was awesome.)

He sure does! In fact he kills Henry VI (as you might have guessed, since we do get to see Henry post-stabbination in the first act of Richard III) and it is an utterly harrowing scene. Especially in the RSC version I saw...nearly a decade ago, holy shit. (There was a lot of blood. It was awesome. I will tell you about it if you don't mind hearing about how the scene goes before reading/seeing it.)

Also TENNANT!HENRY VI. I HAVE THAT. HE IS SO CUTE.

I love the Henry VIs, at any rate. They are not as polished as Shakespeare's later work, sure, but they are utterly electric as theater. You might check out the 1983 BBC version, which is just fantastic -- the best of the series by far, for my money.

Oh snap! Why don't I know more English history, that is awesome. (And why haven't they taught me any in school?) Hmm... Well, go for it, I don't mind being 'spoiled' on Shakespeare anyway. :P

ISN'T HE? <3 Every time I see criticism of Henry VI, the king or the character, I think "But... David Tennant!" XD

Ooh, okay. Are there bits of it on Youtube? Also, I have been meaning to ask you, is An Age of Kings (I think that's what it's called) any good?

Henry VI is the ultimate woobie king in nearly all incarnations. He is just so sad! I want to give him hugs and feed him soup! The RSC production I saw had David Oyelowo -- if you've seen the Branagh As You Like It, he was Orlando in that, and he was also on MI5 -- and he was completely adorable.

There are indeed bits of the Beeb Henry VI on youtube -- you can see them here. They have Theoden from Lord of the Rings as the Duke of York. Which is awesome.

And Age of Kings is amazing. It's done on a tiny cramped set with like one-and-a-half cameras, mostly in closeup, and it's absolutely thrilling (well, Sean Connery's Hotspur is regrettable, but everyone else is great). I absolutely recommend it a million times over.

Speaking of Jacobi love, have you seen Cadfael? I've been rewatching it, so I thought I should ask. :)

Oh mannnn! No, but I keep hearing about it, so CLEARLY I need to. I'm still sloooooowly making my way through I Claudius. And Empire. (The period is there because those two should never be in the same sentence together, never, never, never. :P)
